ABOUT JANET MCCRORIE

JANET
I HAVE BEEN PAINTING FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND IN THAT TIME I HAVE DEVELOPED A UNIQUE METHOD OF CAPTURING MOVEMENT.
MY MAIN BODY OF WORK FEATURES SCOTTISH DANCERS WHERE MY AIM IS TO INVOKE A SENSE OF PRIDE AND NOSTALGIA IN THIS HISTORIC SCOTTISH TRADITION.

MY ARTISTIC STYLE DESCRIBES THE SHAPES MADE BY THE BODY IN ACTION, ENCOURAGING THE EYE TO MOVE AROUND THE PAINTING. I FIND THAT THIS IS BEST SERVED BY USING MIXED MEDIA INCLUDING ACRYLICS, OIL PASTELS, INKS AND OIL PAINT WHICH ALLOWS THE VARIATION IN TEXTURE NEEDED TO REPRESENT THE INDIVIDUAL LOOK OF THE TARTAN AND TO EXPRESS THE EXUBERANT MOVEMENT OF THE DANCING.

I AM REGULARLY COMMISSIONED TO CREATE PAINTINGS WITH A SPECIFIC TARTAN OR TO COMMEMORATE SPECIAL EVENTS SUCH AS WEDDINGS OR SPORTING ACTIVITIES AND I AM HAPPY TO ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE TO IDENTIFY THE FAMILIAR MOVEMENT IN THESE ACTIVITIES AND REPLICATE THIS IN PAINT.

MY PAINTINGS CAN BE VIEWED IN MANY GALLERIES THROUGHOUT SCOTLAND AND SELL INTERNATIONALLY.

ST COLUMBA'S HOSPICE AND THE ROYAL SCOTTISH DANCING SOCIETY HAVE USED MY PAINTINGS FOR CARDS, CALENDARS AND ILLUSTRATION AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL MAGAZINE ARTICLES PUBLISHED ABOUT ME AND MY WORK

ORIGINALLY FROM LANARKSHIRE, I NOW LIVE IN EAST LOTHIAN AND WORK FROM A STUDIO IN MY HOME.
